Alex Kilpatrick has been appointed as the new Chair of the Manchester Storm Academy following the first board meeting on Monday night.

Kilpatrick was one of seven new directors elected, at the club’s AGM on Saturday and following a vote, he replaces Seth Bennett. He will be supported by the Academy’s first Vice-Chair Tony Pickup, who was also voted into position.

John Hunt will continue as treasurer for another 12 months, a role that he has held with some distinction over the past five years. Rachel Crawley completes the executive group and will continue as the company and club Secretary.

Kilpatrick was delighted to accept the role, "It’s a great honour to be elected Chairman of the Manchester Storm Academy and to be part of a team that is so passionate about developing young talent and expanding the sport of Ice Hockey in the UK.

“Working closely with the newly elected board of Directors, the Committee, Head Coaches, volunteers and parents, who all commit so much time to support the club, I will be looking to build upon the brilliant work that Seth Bennett has done as Chairman over the past 3 years to ensure the Academy enjoy further success and growth.”

On his appointment Tony Pickup said,"I have been a part of the academy for two years with my son who plays in the under 11’s, I have seen firsthand the commitment and dedication of everyone which makes this club a fantastic place to be.

“A special thank you for Seth and Claire who without none of this would have been possible and will be sadly missed.

“As one chapter ends another one begins and for me it is an honour to be part of this, elected as Vice-Chair, working with the new chair Alex, the Board of Directors, Committee, Coaches, players and parents which form the family which is the MSA.

“It’s time to focus on the players getting back on the ice as soon as possible, after the go ahead is given, and getting back to what this club is best at, developing young players, competing and what makes this club work as a family doing it through enjoyment and treating all equally.”

Outgoing chair Seth Bennett was quick to pay tribute to the new board members. "It is fantastic to see such a group of skilled people who want to help the Academy. Four years ago nobody really wanted to be involved in the running of the club, now we have some great minds, lots of different experience and a desire to move the club forward.

“I am delighted that Alex has stepped forward, I know from the time I have spent with him this year, the club will be in safe hands and he, supported by Tony Pickup and the rest of the Board will be able to take the club to the next level.

“There are lots of brilliant people in Academy already who are willing to give their time and energy to help the club and I am sure there will be lots of opportunities for new ideas and new roles that will need plenty of support in the future. I know the Bennett family will be watching on from over the hill wishing you the best and grateful that MSA is part of our history and I am sure many of our friendships will stay with us long into the future.”
